Queensland Open Water Swimming Championships

Caitlin Moore and Chloe Dunford are making the most of the many hours spent training up and down a 50m pool. They recently competed in the Queensland Open Water Swimming Championships at Kawana with Caitlin competing in the 1.25km race and Chloe in the 5km race. This was the first open water race for Caitlin and she loved the experience. She finished 2nd out of 42 swimmers feeling really great at the finish so her coach says she will be stepping up to 5km races next!!

Chloe is more experienced at open water swimming having competed in this event last year. She raced in the 5km, 16yr and under race and was aiming to swim fast enough to qualify for the National Open Water Swimming Championships. Chloe finished in 18th position but was just 2 seconds outside the National qualifying time. I asked Chloe if she had another chance to qualify for Nationals and she said “yes, next year!” I love her attitude.

The girls will head back to racing in the pool where they have both just qualified for the State Long Course Championships but we also look forward to following their Open Water exploits.
