Twenty Glasshouse Christian College students competed at the Sunshine Coast Regional Athletics Championships recently. The competition is always very strong at these championships as the best athletes from the region compete and achieve many fantastic results.
After two days of competition, four GCC students gained selection into the Sunshine Coast Team to compete at the Qld State Championships next month.
Cassidy Ferris and Noah Woolston excelled in javelin and shot put respectively to win their events and become Regional Champions. Cassidy threw the javelin 27.05 m to win by 3.00m and Noah put the 4kg shot a massive 12.54m.
Cassidy Ferris had a busy carnival competing in five events. She was very excited to finish 2nd in the 14 year girls 400m running 61.33s and then she placed 3rd in the 200m to also gain selection in that event in addition to the javelin.
Jaiden Ward qualified in the long Jump with a huge jump of 4.73m placing him in 3rd place in the 12 year boys’ competition. He sprinted really strongly, towering over many of the other competitors in the 100 and 200m events. Jaiden finished 4th in both finals and will compete in the 100m and 4 x 100m relay at the State Championships in Cairns.
Twelve-year-old Nicole Morris also competed in three events and qualified for States in the shot put with a put of 8.43m placing 4th overall.
Amy Trevan was very excited to jump a personal best in high jump and qualify for the 13 – 19 year State Championships in Brisbane. Amy jumped 1.47m but missed 1.50m due to her excitement about jumping a personal best! She placed 2nd overall.
Mackenzie Still placed 3rd in the 16 year boys javelin throwing 35.77m. He has been training hard in this event and this is a great result for him but unfortunately, his throw did not quite meet the state qualifying standard.
