Each year we are joined with a different group of students, and every team brings with them different gifts and abilities. This year’s team was quite small in comparison to past years. At first, we questioned whether or not it was worth going and if the small number of students would be able to handle the large work load we had planned.
The decision was made that God knew what He was doing so we continued on. We armed ourselves with the song, More than Conquerors, and this small team conquered every challenge we were set. The team wrote many of their own messages, worked tirelessly and shied away from nothing. Even those who thought they would be afraid to get up in front of a crowd took centre stage and did the job of a superhero. If God is for us who can be against us. (Romans 8:31)
The highlights were different for each team member. However, on this year’s trip we were able to visit a traditional inland village and this was a favourite experience for many. We were the first non-native group to ever visit the village and some of the children had never seen people with fair skin before. As a form of welcome the village performed a traditional ceremony, then allowed us to present a children’s program, which was extremely well received. While we are in Fiji, we partner in ministry with the Fiji Bible College who often use our visit as an opportunity to open doors to share the gospel in new places. We are praying that, because of the success of the visit, the door to this village will now be open for further ministry opportunities.
While in Fiji we spend lots of time visiting primary and high schools presenting concerts. This year we had the privilege of going to a Hindu school that we have never visited before. The headmaster was very hesitant about our visit and gave us the run around while trying to lock in a time. It was incredible to see God work in this man’s heart as we presented the gospel. At the end of our concert he insisted we continue and invited us back again.
