The 10 to 12-year-old GCC Cross Country team has regained the title of Glasshouse District Champions!
Our team of 21 all ran strongly to win the title by just one point from St Michaels College. GCC has been Runners Up for the past two years so to win this trophy again was a great achievement.
Lily Breen and Jared Moss both ran fantastic races leading from the start to comfortably win their 11 year old races. They both put in a strong surge about 400m from the finish line and dropped the pursuing runners to gain a commanding lead. They ran strongly past the cheering crowd to proudly cross the finish line in first place.
Jaymes Roser placed second and Olivia McKenzie third in the 12-year-old races which was also a great effort. Olivia worked her way through the field passing many tired runners and Jaymes maintained a top three position for the duration of the race.
GCC had eight top six finishers who all gained valuable points towards the final tally. These students will represent the Glasshouse District at the upcoming Sunshine Coast Regional Cross Country Championships. Most athletes also ran significantly faster times than they did at the GCC Cross Country.
It was great to have so many parents supporting our students at this event and their encouragement certainly lifted our team’s performance.
The top six placegetters were:
10 years: Jasmine Hazelden 5th, Ben Ramke 6th
11 years: Lily Breen 1st, Jared Moss 1st
12 years: Jaymes Roser 2nd, Olivia McKenzie 3rd, Islah-Lyleigh Dwyer 5th, Ryan Hall 5th
