Chloe Turnbull is an accomplished swimmer and is also a great cross country runner so the Queensland Triathlon All Schools Aquathon sounded like a perfect challenge for her.
Chloe had not competed in an Aquathon before but as it was a run, swim run event she thought it would be a great thing to try. This event is the pathway for selection into the Sunshine Coast School Sport team to compete at next year State Triathlon Championships in Hervey Bay.
Chloe finished the first 1 km run in 15th place and headed into the 200m swim leg with determination. She had an awesome swim and got out of the water in 3rd place overall and headed into the second 1km run. Chloe’s running fitness was now what counted and she found this run more difficult than the first but finished the course in 24th place out 74 competitors. Competitors came from all over Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast so when results were analysed Chloe was the 4th place Sunshine Coast athlete which was a fantastic result. This week she has been named in the Sunshine Coast Team to compete at the State Championships next year which she is very excited about.
Chloe will be doing some run training over the holidays to supplement her swimming training so she will be very competitive at the State event.
Bridget Mackie also competed in the Aquathon and really enjoyed the challenge of this event. We look forward to more students competing in this event in the future.
