A Festivus for the rest of us!

On Wednesday of Week 4, the Year 8s celebrated the culmination of what was a fantastic unit of work!

Over the past term and a half in English Humanities, we have been studying the Pacific Islands, the diverse cultures, and what it means to have our identity founded in our culture, family, and our faith.

This unit included a ‘Cultural Lesson’ each Friday, with guest speakers, dancing, crafts, and so much more.

To celebrate what was an epic unit of work, we held a ‘festival’ celebration for students, with Pacific Island-themed activities and food. We performed a Samoan slap dance, drew Polynesian tatau designs, ate Hawaiian pizza, watched Moana, made lolly leis, had a tropical photo booth, and reflected on what culture and identity mean to us.

It truly is a blessing to be part of a community with so many diverse cultures represented and to share this with our Year 8s.

Onto the next adventure!
