Year 5-6 GCC teams compete in Glasshouse District Competition on Friday afternoons three times a term. Selection trials and practises take place at first breaks on Tuesdays and Wednesdays on the College oval. Students travel by bus to and from the venue (Glasshouse Mountains Sports Club – BeeGees) and return to GCC at approximately 2:30pm.
Other teams are selected for regional carnivals in sports such as Netball, Soccer, Rugby League and Cricket if there is enough interest from students. Teachers will provide details about these competitions as they arise.
GCC Middle School Students enjoy a variety of sporting competitions and recreational activities on Friday afternoons during school time. Competitions such as the ‘Pineapple Cup’ with Nambour Christian College and Suncoast Christian College as well as ‘Friendly Friday’ competitions with Beerwah SHS and Pacific Lutheran College. All students are encouraged to take part in these timetabled events. Aside from traditional sports, there are also opportunities to participate in recreational activities such as Cable Skiing, Surfing, Self Defence, Rock Climbing, Mountain Bike Riding, Lawn Bowls, Golf, Tennis and Orienteering.
SCISSA and After School Competitions
After school sports include the SCISSA (Sunshine Coast Independent Schools Sport) Competitions of: Volleyball, Touch Football and Soccer. GCC also enters teams in season long competitions for Netball, Basketball, Rugby Union 7s and Rugby League. These fixtures usually take place over the course of a term. Players involved have been required to show a greater level of commitment to be present at training sessions as they represent the College in these elite competitions.
Gala Competitions (One or Two-Day)
Students enjoy participating in short competitions over one or two days. In recent years, the College has entered teams in Gala days for Netball, AFL, Table Tennis, Oztag as well as Triathlon and Show-Jumping events. Other competitions include:
