Each year a group of students from Senior school travel to the Pacific Island of Fiji for two weeks to do short term missions. While in Fiji, the group stays at the Fiji Bible College in Lautoka and partner with them in gospel focused outreach programs like kids clubs, youth groups, school concerts and religious education lessons.
The people living in the Fiji Islands are generally quite poor, providing a wonderful opportunity for Glasshouse Christian College students to experience another culture less fortunate than themselves. This teaches them to appreciate what a blessing it is to live in an affluent country like Australia. What the students often discover is, although these people lack financially, they are extremely content with their lives.
The team contributes both practically and financially while on the trip. Last year there was an opportunity to distribute Operation Christmas Child boxes to schools and villages that had suffered devastation during cyclone Winston.
The students also take part in a Christian helps ministry where they visit, share, and pray for people in need. They raise money to provide financial assistance or food parcels for some of these people. This experience is not only a wonderful way to spread the good news of the Lord Jesus Christ to the Fijian people but also an incredible time of spiritual growth for the students themselves as they step out of their comfort zone and trust God to use them for His service.
